Untitled painting by Tommy McHugh. Photo by Gianni Bianchini

A harlequin-like face and upper torso emerge from a composition dominated with shades of grey and streaks of white. A large black nose dominates the middle of frame surrounded by a minimalist stylised gaunt face staring out at the viewer. Streaks of white and light grey rise upward on all sides around the neck. Below this a ruffled clownish collar is picked out in dark grey with a rim of pale gold. Bright red and pale gold spangles fly in the space above the head.
